Ep 4 – Defining the right vision and path for a digital project (podcast in FR)

When you are an entrepreneur or when you have a digital project within a company (or an institution), you often start with an extremely ambitious vision. This is a good start. But it’s even more important to focus on your path.

Secondly, the big mistake that many project leaders make is to try to realize their vision as they imagine it on day one.

In this episode, Christophe Jouret, partner at Anais Digital, explains how to define the different steps and set the right perimeter to realize the vision of a digital project.

In this episode, you will learn :

  • Why it is necessary to start from a vision ;
  • How to define objectives;
  • How to mix the conceptual, even strategic vision with the concrete of the project.

Highlights:

(00:55) “To achieve the desired objectives, we are always in an exchange with the project leaders, in order to accompany them, to help them” ;

(01:20) “Because a vision is first realized when we put something online, a scope, an application, a specific website that meets the needs of the user”;

(02:00) “Leaders are capable, with their teams, of transforming this vision into extremely specific elements, into a plan that, little by little, makes the vision come true”;

(02:13) “The big mistake that many leaders and project leaders make is to want to realize their vision as they imagine it on day 1”;

(03:33) “We organize workshops with our clients to break down this vision into modules, according to the innovation process of the different phases of the project.

3 tips to establish a clear plan for your digital project

Many project leaders come with an extremely ambitious vision of what they want to achieve. Here is what Christophe Jouret advises them:

  • The leader must establish a clear vision of the project

You want to make your digital project succeed? Give your team a clear vision of the project and turn it into a concrete plan.

  • Break down your project into several steps

Keep your ambition, but go step by step. Break down your vision into modules. Then, check if they allow you to reach the project’s objectives. Stay humble.

  • Use the SMART method

The SMART method is an acronym used to talk about the attributes a goal should have. A SMART goal is one that is specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-bound. This technique will help you implement an effective strategy by measuring the steps and results of your project.

Hello Christophe Jouret, partner of Anais Digital and entrepreneur in digital for about 20 years, I’m here to share my experience and some anecdotes on how to succeed in your digital projects and avoid the pitfalls. Today, I want to talk to you about why it’s important to have a good vision to succeed in your digital project and why it’s even more important to focus on your path.

We receive a lot of project leaders who come with an extremely ambitious, extremely clear vision of what they want to achieve in one, two, three, four, five years. On the other hand, it is more complicated for them to tell us and explain where they think they should start. To achieve these visions, our objective is, always in an exchange with the project leaders, to accompany them, to help them bring the creative concept, the vision, the business objectives within a project perimeter that is extremely specific.

Because a vision starts with putting something online, a scope, an application, a specific website that meets the needs of the user and juggling constantly between this conceptual, even strategic author and the concrete project. This is the talent of the great digital leaders. They are able to rise, to take the height, to establish a clear vision, to share it with the teams and to make sure that the focus remains on these teams. Also, they are capable, with their teams or accompanying their teams, of transforming this vision into extremely specific elements, into a plan that ensures that, little by little, the vision is realized.

The big mistake that many leaders and project leaders make is to want to achieve their vision as they imagine it on day 1. It is to say: I turn my vision into reality immediately and I consider that in a short period of time, I will achieve it. The talent is to know how to break down this vision into small blocks and to be able to adjust the blocks one after the other, always with a form of agility, always in interaction with the end users, always as a leader. With a lot of humility in front of the project and in front of the goals we want to reach. In concrete terms, what happens?

Often, project leaders come to us and explain: in five years, we will be the new Facebook, the new LinkedIn, the new ImmoWeb. And they have a very ambitious vision and it is extremely important to have ambition. And at the same time, when you ask them the concrete question of where do you start specifically to achieve this vision? That’s something more complicated. So, what do we do?

We organize workshops with our clients to break down this vision into modules, according to the innovation process of the different phases of the project, which are the alignment phase, the design phase, the construction phase, the improvement phase and the conversion phase. And we break down these different phases into modules. We look with the users to see if these modules allow us to reach the project’s objectives and little by little, we break down this vision into a plan, with priorities where we keep, as always, this logic of agility. This ability to adapt to all the unforeseen events that inevitably come along the way of digital projects.
